about me

What to do on your 25th birthday?

Once a year, a certain, quite difficult question comes up: What to do on my birthday? Well, this time around it so happened that I participated in a psychological experiment my friend Roman currently conducts. It's all about work overload and trying to teach computers to guess when a human reaches work overload from looking at thigs like EEG and EKG data. Pretty interesting stuff.

Anyhow, the reason I devote a blog post to this is because this is probably the coolest photo ever of me at one of my birthdays. Enjoy :)

about me

Many people have a straightforward answer to the questions: what do you do for a living? I always found that difficult. At the moment, I have three main areas of work/interest: filmmaking, photography and software design.

I was born in Salzburg, Austria in 1982, grew up in Vienna and now live in Berlin, Germany. I attended a school for IT in Austria and moved progressively towards filmmaking from there, discovering photography on the way. If I had to choose one are of work above the others, I would choose to make films - working together with like-minded professionals to tell meaningful stories through memorable images is the thing I love to do most.

But as long as I don't have to choose, I'm more than happy to tell stories with images alone as a photographer, or to withdraw to the ivory towers of pure logic and design software. It's a rare pleasure to be able to alternate between different passions all the time and earn a living on the way.

A new (personal) era has begun

A few days ago my quest to study directing has finally come to an end as I have been accepted at Filmarche. This Film school is pretty special in that there are no dedicated Professors - instead the students organize their education themselfes, teaching each other and inviting people from the field for specific workshops/lectures. I think it sounds very promising and am pretty excited to see what it's like.

The website is currently still a bit of a temporary solution, I have to port everything over to the new version of the CMS I use and I'm still experimenting quite a bit. Once I'm done the whole navigation structure will hopefully make a lot more sense. So, please bear with it for the time beeing.

Addictions

I always kinda considered myself to be fairly resistant against addictions, but the anime series Hikaru no go has really caught me on the wrong foot. I watched 50 episodes (with 20 minutes an episode) in just a bit more than 3 days - yes, in a way it is reasearch for my new go film, but this became a little extreme.
